Hello Readers:
My name is Spencer Montgomery and I am interning with Deanna Mims at MarketDone for the Spring 2012 semester. I am interning through my entrepreneurship class at Florida State University to get an inside look at an entrepreneur and her business and also to see how marketing plays into business. Marketing is essential to the success of every business and I am excited to see how Deanna puts her spin on this necessity.
This is my second internship in my college career and it is very different from my previous experience. Last summer I interned at Raymond James & Associates, an extremely large financial planning company. The company dynamics between such a large company and a small company will be very interesting to observe over this next semester. As a junior at Florida State University, I am quickly approaching that time where I will need to start job hunting, and knowing the sort of work environment I prefer will be very beneficial to that search.
I am still unsure as to what exactly I want to do right after graduating. Currently, I am leaning toward graduate school. My tentative plan is to stay in school and try to ride out the economic downturn before entering the workforce. Also, extra education never hurt anyone! I know that I want to open a business early in my life, but I still do not know if attempting to do so right after graduating or working for a company for a while will be more advantageous.
One of the main things I’m hoping to learn from Deanna is just what it takes to start a business from scratch. Hopefully this will help me decide what I should do after graduating in regard to opening my own business versus working for someone else. In addition to this, I am hoping to get a look at how marketing works with entrepreneurs and small businesses. This is Deanna’s area of expertise and I hope to learn as much as I can from her in the relatively short amount of time I will work for her.
After meeting Deanna for the first time this week, I am very excited to start working for her. She is very passionate about her work and working for someone who loves what they do always makes the job more enjoyable. Her excitement is infectious and I can’t wait to see what this semester has in store.
