Taming the Beast

There’s a beast approaching quickly and 2 months ago I had no idea how I was going to stand up and face it. Some people avoid it. They stick around and push it back until they absolutely have to deal with it. Not me. I’m going to be ready for the real world, or the beast lurking beyond graduation.  I believe that the best preparation is through an internship.

With the economy at its lowest point in years it’s a scary job market out there.  The days of landing a job simply by handing over an attractive resume are gone.  Today it’s about networking, communication skills, experience, professionalism and presentation. I knew that an internship would be a way of honing my skills while gaining experience.

After reviewing multiple opportunities I decided on a summer internship with Deanna Mims of MarketDone. She offered me an invaluable opportunity for real life marketing experience and the possibility of introductions to many business leaders in our community.  Mrs. Mims’ passion and drive to see her clients succeed excited me about my future career.  Like any good business relationship, I knew that I would only get as much out of this opportunity as I put in.  Already my opinion has been taken into consideration on things such as business cards, pamphlets, and website design.  It’s the very beginning of the summer and already I feel like my input is valued.

I know that this is a great opportunity, and in August when people ask me, “how was your summer?” I’ll be able to confidently look them in the eye and say “it was great, look at what I accomplished.”

Sincerely,

Matt
